Suraykumar Yadav hasn’t contributed with the bat for a long time in T20Is, and his form has become a concern for the coach and other members of the support staff. In the ongoing series against England, the right-handed batter has registered four failures and the mode of his dismissals has been questioned by former players.
Although he has been brilliant as a skipper, with the team winning four consecutive series under his guidance, the lack of runs needs attention.
Aakash Chopra highlighted the biggest dilemma for the skipper. The team management has told the batters to play aggressively even if the wickets are falling. There is no place for slowing down in the shortest format of the game.
Some of the players have been dismissed cheaply while trying to take on the bowlers from ball one, but the captain and Gambhir are not complaining.
“Suryakumar Yadav is the captain, and he has to walk the talk. When he is demanding an attacking brand of cricket from his teammates, he has to lead from the front.
“The problem with SKY is that he is not getting runs by playing big shots and he can’t tell his teammates that he would bat slowly to return to form. When you ask for something from the players, you need to start the process first,” Aakash Chopra said on Star Sports.
