Unwavering Support: Suryakumar Yadav Backs Sanju Samson Amid Challenges and Controversies

India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has once again expressed full confidence in Sanju Samson, affirming that there is no doubt about his position as the wicketkeeper in the T20I squad. Despite being excluded from India’s Champions Trophy squad, Samson has faced some recent challenges, including a dispute with the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA). Samson was not selected to play for Kerala in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after skipping a three-day camp before the tournament.

KCA president Jayesh George expressed criticism towards the senior wicketkeeper-batter, emphasizing that he cannot simply show up for Kerala whenever it suits him.

Suryakumar Yadav voiced his full backing for Sanju Samson, stating, “There is no question regarding the wicketkeeper position. Sanju has performed exceptionally well in his last few matches and demonstrated his immense potential.”

Following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20Is, Sanju Samson seized the opportunity to make his mark. Opening the batting in T20s, he showcased his skills, notably scoring a century against Bangladesh on home soil. This remarkable feat led to him becoming the first batter to score three centuries in T20Is within a single calendar year. However, despite his T20I success, the selectors seem less convinced about his potential in ODIs.

The captain further highlighted that Samson’s ability to seize opportunities has played a significant role in India’s success. “That’s exactly what we expect from all our players. Sanju has made the most of every chance he has received, and I am genuinely pleased with his progress,” he added.

Fortunately for Samson, his T20I form has earned him continued support from Suryakumar Yadav. The captain emphasized that Samson’s recent performances have made him an automatic starter. His consistent displays have been a key factor in India’s recent success, and Suryakumar is confident in his abilities moving forward.
