Manoj Tiwary and Gautam Gambhir fought during one of the Ranji Trophy matches between Delhi and Bengal in 2015. Since then, the two are not in talking terms despite representing the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. Tiwary recently spoke about Gambhir and questioned his appointment as Team India’s head coach. He felt that Gautam lacked experience and VVS Laxman and Sairaj Bahutule were better than him.
He called Gambhir a hypocrite for adding Morne Morkel and Ryan ten Doeschate to his coaching staff. “In one of his old interviews, Gambhir spoke against the policy of appointing foreign coaches. He accused them of enjoying and earning money over here. Gambhir said that they had no emotions and feelings. He had a chance to work with Indians but he picked Morne Morkel and Ryan ten Doeschate. Actions don’t match his words, so I called him a hypocrite,” said Tiwary.
Recently, Nitish Rana and Harshit Rana defended Gambhir on social media. However, Tiwary called it a “PR game,” saying both of them played under Gambhir.
“Harshit Rana played ahead of Akash Deep in the first Test against Australia in Perth. Akash was in fine form against Bangladesh and New Zealand but Harshit was preferred over him. He is bound to support Gambhir for the favour he got in Australia,” he added.
