Former Australia batter Simon Katich called Team India’s pacer Mohammed Siraj ‘dumb’ on Day 2 of the ongoing third Test at the Gabba. Katich was miffed with Siraj for not bowling the right length to Travis Head, who scored 152 runs.
Katich got angry when Siraj failed to bowl according to the field set by captain Rohit Sharma and kept targeting the southpaw with short-pitched stuff. There was no fielder in the deep third-man area, and Head hit him for several boundaries.
“That is not what you expect from Mohammed Siraj. He had a fielder in that area in the previous over but he was removed. But Siraj bowled in that spot where the team was playing without the fielder. He is dumb and that is dumb cricket,” Simon Katich said on Channel 7.
“They had placed fielders for him in the deep for Travis Head. There was a player stationed in the deep point but he was removed but Siraj bowled in that area,” he added.
Travis Head and Steve Smith scored centuries on Day 2 of the Brisbane Test match. Australia wete 405/7 in 101 overs at the stumps on Day 2; Siraj picked up one wicket but gave away 97 runs from his 22.2 overs.
Siraj has taken 10 wickets so far in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
