Virat Kohli roared back to form with a hundred in the second innings of the series opener against Australia in Perth. Having been dismissed for five in the first essay, the 36-year-old amassed an unbeaten 100 off 143 balls in the second innings as India won the contest by 295 runs.
Kohli’s hundred was his 30th in the longest format of the game and his first since July 2023. Overall, this was his 10th international hundred in Australia, taking him ahead of Sachin Tendulkar and Jack Hobbs among the batters with the most three-digit scores by a visiting batter in one century.
He needs one more ton to equal Sir Don Bradman’s record for 11 international centuries in one nation.
Legendary Australian batter scored 11 centuries in England, which is a record for most tons by a visiting player in a country. Bradman accumulated 11 hundreds in 30 innings in England, averaging over 100 with a highest score of 334.
In 55 innings, Kohli has scored 2,710 runs across formats at an average of 54.20, including 10 tons and 13 half-centuries in Australia.
Hobbs, with nine hundreds against Australia, and Sachin, with nine tons against Sri Lanka, are joint third on the list. Sir Vivian Richards, who managed eight hundreds in England, is fourth and is followed by Sunil Gavaskar, who hit seven three-digit scores in the West Indies.
