Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh said that only Prithvi Shaw can help himself come out of a career slump. Shaw hit a new low when he went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. From being one of the players to watch out for in the tournament to becoming a non-performer, Shaw’s decline has been fast. Former players Ricky Ponting, Pravin Amre, Aakash Chopra, and several others have made him a soft target.
Harbhajan didn’t say anything harsh and wished good for the better. He pointed out some areas where Shaw is lacking and the issues that have put him in trouble. The right-handed batter is called next Sachin Tendulkar by many, but he stands nowhere at the moment.
“I don’t know what has happened with him, but he is the only person who can get himself out of this situation. He will have to sit down and plan things accordingly. It is hard for any player to accept that he went unsold in the IPL auction. People said that he was next to Sachin Tendulkar. The problem with us is that we start making big comparisons. He was under a lot of pressure when he was put in Sachin’s category. There are many more factors other than cricket that have stalled his career,” Harbhajan told News18 in an interview.
“I hope he emerges from the recent setback. He should work hard on his fitness and he is still very young. He can go a long way in his career. He has completely ignored the fitness aspect and is now overweight. He should look up to Virat Kohli to improve his fitness. I wish him all the best,” he added.
Shaw was also dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team. “I am not a part of his circle. When you are young, you end up doing things that are not good for your career. He has suffered a big jolt in the form of the IPL auction. I hope he learns from it, and once he gets his act right, there will be no stopping for him.”
