Babar Azam was dropped from Pakistan’s Test team for the last two Tests against England in Multan and Rawalpindi. Former players question the need to play without one of the best batters of Pakistan. However, despite his absence from the red-ball team, the right-handed batter has received backing from Test skipper Shan Masood. He feels Babar will comeback stronger.
Speaking on the BBC Stumped radio programme, Masood said that he is expecting to see Babar in the Test team as a player of his quality will easily emerge from the difficult situation.
“Babar is one of the best batters in the world and I’m nobody to say that he doesn’t have a future in Test cricket,” said Masood. “He is talented enough to become one of the greatest batters in red-ball cricket. He is always there among the top-ranked batters in ICC Rankings. Sometimes players need breaks,” he added.
Babar hasn’t scored a Test hundred since December 2022 and not even a fifty in 18 innings. Kamran Ghulam replaced him in the Test team and scored a hundred on debut.
Masood clarified that Babar hasn’t fallen out of favour as far as Team is concerned. “I think this break will help him and he will comeback stronger. There is no harm in being pulled out of the team. He will always be one of the best batters to play for Pakistan.”
Babar was recalled to white-ball cricket team for the tour of Australia. He will play one-day internationals and T20 matches against the Men in Yellow. Mohammad Rizwan replaced hi. As a skipper in shorter formats.
