It’s a mere three miles from the seaside and offers plenty of visual treats as well as a rich history.

The main street could easily vie for the nation’s finest, the cathedral dominating the skyline is awe-inspiring, and the River Arun lends a certain Oxbridge-esque charm to the whole area, reports MyLondon.

There are some splendid walks originating from the town itself, none superior than the amble along the River Arun to the Black Rabbit pub nestled on the river banks.

If you’re game for a challenge, you could tackle something more demanding, like the six-mile trek across the South Downs to the delightful village of Amberley.

The town is teeming with independent retailers, art galleries, pubs, eateries, and coffee houses, making it an ideal hub for cycling and canoeing. It’s a stunning destination all year round.

At Christmas, just after dusk, with the decorations aglow, the town appears especially magical.

Arundel station is just a brisk 15-minute walk or a swift taxi ride away from the town centre, and it’s approximately a 90-minute journey from London Victoria. If you’re behind the wheel, it’s about the same time from parts of South London, via the M23, A23 and A27.
