India A player Dhruv Jurel equaled MS Dhoni’s milestone for the most catches by a wicketkeeper in an innings during the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 game against India B at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He grabbed seven catches in the second innings, helping his team to restrict the rivals to 184 runs.
MS Dhoni took seven catches during a Duleep Trophy 2004-05 match for East Zone against Central Zone. Before the most successful India captain, the record was held by Sunil Benjamin, who amassed six catches and impacted one stumping for Central Zone against North Zone in the final in 1973.
The 22-year-old took Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Sai Kishore, and Navdeep Saini’s catches. His efforts played a key role in his team limiting the rivals to a below-par total. However, Jurel managed just two runs and a golden duck across both innings.
