Jason Gillespie, the Test head coach of Pakistan, has backed Shan Masood, saying that he led the side well despite a 0-2 defeat against Bangladesh at home.
He claimed that Pakistan didn’t play as a team and the players needed to improve before the Test series against England.
Bangladesh completed the chase of 185 on Day 5 of the second Test in Rawalpindi. The six-wicket defeat was Masood’s fifth as Test skipper, and he is yet to win a game since getting the captaincy ahead of the Australia tour last year.
“Shan led the side well against Bangladesh. We didn’t play well as a team, and that’s the fact. We need to improve in some areas. I believe in these players as they are good and have shown glimpses of their talent to everyone. We need consistency,” he told reporters.
Pakistan last won a Test series at home in 2021 when they defeated South Africa.

Shan Masood admitted that the batting woes hurt Pakistan. He also spoke about allowing Bangladesh to score more than 260 when they were 26/6 at one stage in the first innings of the second Test.
“We played good cricket in Australia but didn’t complete the job, and the same thing happened against Bangladesh. We allowed Bangladesh to come back into the game after having them at 26/6.”
