A flight attendant has revealed tips for securing an upgrade on your next flight and explained why you might not get one despite your efforts. In a video uploaded to TikTok, LADbible TV, also known as @lad, interviewed a cabin crew member with one of them disclosing the steps passengers should take to enhance their travel experience to their destination.

Asked how people can get an upgrade the next time they step foot on a plane, the flight attendant laughed, saying that it’s one of her most asked questions. So for those keen to know listen up! Firstly, she says if you want a more comfy seat you need to dress to impress. She suggests: “Dress well and dress for the cabin you want to be in.”

She emphasised the importance of being polite and maintaining a positive attitude. Although receiving an upgrade is pleasant, displaying anger or frustration will not improve the situation. It may appear to be common sense, yet some passengers fail to remain composed and instead resort to yelling at airport staff. Her advice is clear: ” Be polite and be nice, don’t shout at anyone cause negative behaviour is not rewarded.”

Discussing why, even if you do all of the above, she said there is one reason you just won’t get an upgrade. She joked: “Don’t have children.” Talking about why having kids may hinder you getting an upgrade, she explains: “They will never upgrade children, ever.” Explaining this more, she further added: “They would never put a child in upper class or in premium economy because then the children usually disturb the other passengers so that is why you would never get upgraded with children.”

She isn’t the only one who thinks dressing up can help you get the seat you’re eyeing up. According to Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert (MSE), you need to bear in mind that getting an upgrade will likely place you in cabins that are posher. Because of this, they suggest dressing the part to increase your chance of getting that much-desired upgrade.

They explain: “While an old t-shirt and flip-flops might be comfortable, an airline is less likely to put you in with its top-paying customers if you don’t look the part.” People don’t just go on holiday to soak up the sun and escape work, they also go for a special reason.
