India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shardul Thakur opened up about MS Dhoni’s suggestions as captain and how it is to play alongside him in the team. He claimed Dhoni gave freedom to bowlers and told them to come up with plans.
Thakur also said that the former captain doesn’t interfere with the plans of the bowlers and allows them to execute them. If that doesn’t work, Dhoni comes up with ideas and suggestions.
“Playing with MS Dhoni has always been special because he allow us to grow as players. He allow us to come up with plans. He never spoon-feed us. He says, ‘Tomorrow I might not be there behind the stumps. What will you do? Go back to your room, think about the game and come up with plans. If it doesn’t work then I wil intervene,” he said.
Shardul Thakur also highlighted Dhoni’s legacy: “He has won three ICC titles and groomed several young players. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma learned a lot from him. Dhoni backed them, and they became star performers.”
Meanwhile, Dhoni left CSK captaincy before the start of IPL 2024 and handed the captain’s armband to Ruturaj Gaikwad. He hasn’t revealed his plans to play in IPL 2025. The veteran will wait to learn about the new retention rules before deciding on his future course of action.
