Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq said that if India don’t want to play in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025, there is no point in making a fuss about it. The global tournament will be played in the neighbouring country in February and March next year but the BCCI doesn’t want to send the Men in Blue to Pakistan because of the political issues between the two nations.
With the reports of India not willing to travel to the country, several former Pakistan cricketers have urged India to come to their country and compete in the ICC event. Meanwhile, Saqlain feels there is no point in making a fuss about the issue as International Cricket Council (ICC) will look into the matter.
“If India wants to play in Pakistan, they can. If they don’t want to come, it doesn’t matter in the end. There’s no point in making a fuss about their decision. This won’t make anyone bad. This is ICC’s tournament, and they will look into the issue, and they should,” Mushtaq was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
The Asia Cup 2023 was supposed to be played in Pakistan. However, the tournament was held in a hybrid model after India’s refusal to play their matches in Pakistan. As a result, Pakistan hosted just four matches while the remaining ones were played in Sri Lanka.
Mushtaq also wants Babar Azam to continue as Pakistan’s captain in T20Is. He is under the scanner after the Men in Blue were eliminated from the group stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
“Many people want Babar Azam to leave captaincy but they are outsiders. They are listening to the things from outside and then making comments,” he added.
