As the temperature heats up, most people want to visit the seaside to take advantage of the sun, and there is one beautiful town that has one of the best beaches in Britain that is simply a must-visit.

Folkestone is a coastal town in Kent, England that is known for its natural beauty as not only does it offer breathtaking views of the English Channel but is very close to the famous White Cliffs of Dover. 

The most popular beach in Folkestone is Sunny Sands, named after its soft golden sand and is located right to the town’s harbour so there are many cafes and shops nearby. 

The beach has rugged cliffs and woodlands as a backdrop which are perfect for taking some photos while also being near many amenities so you can enjoy a beautiful location with plenty to do.

Sunny Sands has been named one of the best beaches in Europe to reach by train according to Euronews as it is the perfect place to visit for anyone who does not want to spend hundreds of pounds travelling abroad this summer. 

They said: “Summer is the time to visit England’s creative port town of Folkestone. Lying between two cliffs on the southeast Kent coast, this vibrant seaside town is a hub of arts and culture.” 

It only takes one hour to reach Folkestone by train from London and then the beach is only a taxi ride or a 25-minute walk away from the train station.

Once you get near the beach, you can travel down the cliffs by the Leas Lift, a Victorian elevator built in 1885 where you can enjoy the speculator views before you even reach the sands.

Folkestone is also known for Wuthering Heights Day, a music event in late July where people dress in red and dance at the harbour to Kate Bush’s iconic 1978 song of the same name to celebrate the singer’s birthday. 

Kate Brush grew up in Kent and previously said the area was a “big help” in inspiring her to begin writing songs as a child. 

In an interview with Great British, Life, Kate said: “I don’t think I could ever forget growing up in Kent; it has played a part in making me what I am. A lot of musical talent has come from Kent in the past and almost certainly will continue to do so.” 

Folkestone is known for having a big art scene and there are over 70 artworks and murals scattered around town, which even includes Bansky art.

One of the best places to visit in Folkestone is the Creative Quarter, known for its bright-coloured buildings as well as having art galleries, theatre, music and lots of fun places to eat. 

This beautiful town is a great place to visit for anyone who wants a fun day at the beach but also for nature and art lovers or for anyone who simply enjoys quirky events.
