Former India player Tinu Yohannan feels Sanju Samson should play each game like a do-or-die, considering what he has gone through in his career so far. Despite making his debut for the Indian team in 2015, Samson has been a part of 29 T20Is and 16 ODIs.
The 29-year-old was not given a game in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 despite being part of the team. He played a few games in the T20I series against Zimbabwe before being benched for the first game with Sri Lanka,
The right-handed batter replaced Shubman Gill for the second T20I but was dismissed for a golden duck. In his conversation with Revsportz, Yohannan backed the Kerala cricketer.
“He made his debut 10 years ago and after that he hasn’t been given enough chances. For him, each match is like a do-or-die game. He is in pressure the moement he walks out to bat. He has to be given a long run. He needs backing,” he said.
“At Rajasthan Royals, he is aware about his role. He knows it doesn’t matter if he fails. In the Indian team it is difficult for him with now Rishabh Pant is back.He needs to be given a long run.”
Samson has a batting average of 20.18 and a strike rate of 132.93 in 29 outings. He was in form during the IPL 2024, scoring 531 runs at an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 153.46.
