The beautiful city of Cordoba, located in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia, is a popular tourist destination due to its historic old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The southern city is “full of little streets to be explored, courtyards full of flowers, inviting squares and lively taverns where you can enjoy a good flamenco performance or try the local cuisine,” Spain.info explains.

Its most famous attraction is the impressive La Mezquita, a huge mosque dating from 784 A.D. featuring incredible architecture and colourful mosaics.

The Great Mosque of Cordoba, which welcomes two million visitors a year, is one of the most important and beautiful monuments in Spain.

Travel experts at Spain.info explained that the building is a “mixture of architectural styles superimposed on one another over the nine centuries its construction and renovations lasted”.

“Standing in the historic centre, it is one of the most beautiful examples of Muslim art in Spain,” they added.

Cordoba is a very walkable city and tourists won’t need to use public transport to explore its main attractions.

A traveller who recently visited the Spanish city explained in her travel blog Bagladymeredithsandiego that Cordoba is “a city known for its rich cultural heritage, highly walkable and safe for solo female travellers”.

She said that its compact size “makes it easy to explore on foot,” and added that Cordoba’s “friendly locals and well-lit streets contribute to its welcoming atmosphere”.

Holidaymakers should start their journey at the Great Mosque, and from there visit the Jewish Quarter, with its “narrow streets, flower-filled patios, and historic synagogues”.

The Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, a fortress with beautiful gardens, is also a must-see, as well as the Roman Bridge, which offers one of the most iconic views of the city.
