A globetrotting Canadian has been left utterly amazed by the “hidden gem” of Riga, Latvia, insisting it’s a must-see that “truly took my breath away”.

Kristen, a seasoned traveller and online travel guru, couldn’t hide her enthusiasm for the Latvian capital, which she says stole her heart with its stunning array of colourful buildings, enchanting old town, relaxing spas, and wallet-friendly activities.

Riga, which boasts Europe’s largest market, is perfect for foodies, craft beer aficionados, and those keen to snap up some Latvian jewellery. Plus, getting around is a breeze, with most sights just a stroll away.

Reflecting on her visit, Kristen was effusive: “I can’t believe I haven’t been before.”

She went on to say: “Have you ever been to Riga, the capital of Latvia? This city is another European city I visited this fall that truly took my breath away.

“Nestled on the edge of the Baltic Sea, Riga is another city you’re definitely going to want to add to your Europe bucket list. Riga’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so there’s no surprise that strolling through it feels just like stepping into a postcard. I could have wandered the streets for days on end.”

Kristen was absolutely smitten with Riga’s Old Town, raving about its “tons” of museums, concert halls, and breathtaking architecture. She couldn’t get enough of the House of the Black Heads museum, Three Brothers museum, Livu Square, the panoramic views from St Peter’s Church tower, Our Lady of Sorrows Church, and the historic Swedish Gate.

She also dished out her top picks for foodies heading to Riga, including the enchanting Black Magic Apothecary bar, the cosy Parunasim Kafe’teeka cafe, the bustling Riga Central Market, Rozengrals for a taste of Medieval dining, and the Skyline Bar for some fancy cocktail action.

“I had so much fun exploring Riga, and already can’t wait to go back some day,” she gushed, labelling the capital “one of Europe’s best kept secrets”. Fans were quick to echo her sentiments in the comments, as one person said: “Riga is awesome.”
