Europe’s 10 friendliest destinations have been revealed and one country in the UK which is known for diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage has made it to the fourth spot. Scotland in the UK has made it to the list of the friendliest countries with neighbouring Ireland taking the top position.

The list has been prepared by Conde Nest Traveller as they assessed the various countries where you are most likely to be greeted by friendly and warm locals. 

Scotland is a country with a rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and a strong sense of identity. It offers a mix of historical sites, natural beauty, and vibrant cultural experiences, making it a unique and attractive destination.

It occupies the northern third of the island of Great Britain and shares a border with England to the south. 

It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and north, the North Sea to the northeast, and the Irish Sea to the south.

The website stated: “Striking moorland, misty mountains, epic castles, fresh seafood, mouth-numbing whisky, dramatic beaches, atmospheric islands and general good cheer can all be found here. 

“Whether you drink a dram in a cosy bar in Glasgow or meet a fellow hiker halfway up a cliff, chances are you’ll have a lovely blether.”

The capital city is Edinburgh, known for its historic and cultural attractions. Glasgow is the largest city and is known for its vibrant arts scene and architecture. Other notable cities include Aberdeen, Dundee, and Inverness.

Scotland is renowned for its diverse landscapes, including rugged highlands, rolling lowlands, numerous islands (such as the Hebrides, Orkney, and Shetland), and picturesque lochs (lakes) like Loch Ness and Loch Lomond.

It has three official languages: English, Scots, and Scottish Gaelic. Gaelic is primarily spoken in the Highlands and Islands. The country is famous for its traditional music, particularly the bagpipes, and traditional dances such as the Highland fling and ceilidh dances.

Scotland hosts numerous festivals, including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world’s largest arts festival, and Hogmanay, the traditional Scottish New Year celebration.

It is home to many historic castles, such as Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle, and Eilean Donan Castle. The country also has numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Heart of Neolithic Orkney and the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh.

The Scottish Highlands, the Isle of Skye, and the Cairngorms National Park are popular destinations for their stunning natural beauty and outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and wildlife watching.

It is also known as the “home of golf,” with historic courses like St Andrews Links attracting golfers from around the world.
