The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will start on June 2. Former New Zealand bowler Mitchell McClenaghan has ignored Virat Kohli and Babar Azam to pick a Rajasthan Royals cricketer as the favorite to win the Player of the Tournament award in the upcoming edition of the global event. Eight RR players are involved in the big event.
Kohli is the leading run-scorer in T20Is and the T20 World Cup. The right-hand batter also managed 741 runs in the Indian Premier League 2024. According to McClenaghan, Trent Boult will pick the most important individual prize.
“Trent Boult will be the top wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup. He will start with a bang for New Zealand and will be consistent. The Player of the Tournament is also going to be Trent Boult. He is going to win the first World Cup for New Zealand,” he said on ESPNcricinfo.
He named Heinrich Klaasen for the leading run-scorer award. The South African wicket-keeper is one of the consistent performers in white-ball cricket.
The former seamer also predicted that England will face New Zealand in the final of the event on June 29.
The Kiwis will face Afghanistan, the West Indies, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea in the league stage.
