UK beach is one of the ‘most secluded in the world’ | Travel News | Travel

When you think of the very southern tip of Cornwall, seclusion does come to mind, so it’s perhaps no surprise that one of the world’s “most secluded beaches” is reported to be in this region. Just south of Land’s End in Cornwall’s far west is Nanijzal Beach, a rocky cove which was ranked the second most secluded beach in the world by Sunsail.

The team analysed factors including accessibility, online searches, connectivity, noise and amenities to determine which beaches were the most secluded.

Beaches with a lack of social searches means they are less exposed to social media, with the experts concluding “the less people likely to know about them”.

Similarly, beaches with a lack of phone service also scored highly in the ranking – giving people the chance to “switch off”.

“Each beach has been ranked against these factors and given a score out of 17,” said the report. “The lower the score, the more secluded and remote the beach is.”

Due to Nanjizal Beach’s remote and largely inaccessible location, it remains one of the UK’s most untouched beaches. However, as Instagram popularity has grown, it is slowly becoming more popular among those eager to get a snap.

Most of the time, though, the beach is usually only passed by walkers on the coast path. One of the interesting things about this beach, however, is the colour of its water.

According to Cornwall Beaches: “Situated at the end of a short, shallow valley, the beach changes from year to year. Sometimes the beach is a pretty boulder-strewn cove, whilst at others there is plenty of golden sand stretching right across the bay.

“One thing is constant though – the unusually clear blue water. “

The beach is of particular interest due to its caves. One of the most well-known caves at Nanjizal is known as “Song of the Sea”. The cave formation is flooded with light and contains an emerald lagoon within.

The far end of the cave looks out to the Atlantic swells beyond. The bay also features a rock formation known as the Diamond Horse.

If you do want to visit Nanjazil Beach it’s important to do so with safety in mind. Visitors should always check the times and aim for low tide as the beach dramatically reduces in side once high tide rolls in.

You can reach the beach from the coast path coming from Land’s End – Nanjazil is roughly a mile south. Alternatively, you can find a car park at Porthgwarra and walk. Once again this takes roughly one mile.
