Peaceful protests are woven into the fabric of the way the American government functions. The Founding Fathers did not design America to be a communist nation that puts people in political prison just because they agree with the government. Yet there were many arrests on January 6, 2021 involving people who were not engaging in illegal activity. There were over 1200 individuals prosecuted from nearly all 50 states, according to WND.

Trump has said he will be rolling out pardons, and during a Fox interview picked up by WND, Vice President JD Vance has said one of the criteria that will be looked at is whether or not the person imprisoned was violent or not. 

“I think it’s very simple. Look, if you protested peacefully on January 6 and you’ve had Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice treat you like a gang member, you should be pardoned,” Vance said. 

“If you committed violence on that day, obviously, you shouldn’t be pardoned. There’s a little bit of a gray area there, but we’re very much committed to seeing the equal administration of law. There are a lot of people, we think, in the wake of January 6, who were prosecuted unfairly. We need to rectify that,” he said.
