2026 Ford Ranger Super Duty Is A Mid-Sized Super Truck

The Ranger Super Duty gains over 2,000 lbs of towing capacity

Ford teased the Ranger Super Duty last fall and the company is gearing up for its launch next year. As part of this effort, a prototype was recently caught undergoing cold weather testing in Northern Europe.

Looking like a brute, the Super Duty prototype follows in the footsteps of the standard Ranger but has been equipped with a snorkel and a unique bed. The truck also appears to have a modified front bumper and grille.

While there isn’t much else to see, we can expect a beefed up frame and heavy duty axles. Speaking of the latter, Ford has previously teased an eight lug setup that combines 18-inch wheels with 33-inch all-terrain tires. At the time, Ranger Super Duty Engineering Program Supervisor, Drew O’Shannassy, said “The eight-stud configuration offers a significant advantage in terms of load capacity and ensures an even distribution of weight across the wheel.” He added the wheel and tire setup will provide a “great combination of strength, grip and reliability that our hard-working customers need.”

Ford hasn’t gone into many specifics, but has previously said the Ranger Super Duty will be able to “do things no other mid-size truck can do.” In particular, it will have a towing capacity of 9,921 lbs (4,500 kg), which is a significant improvement over the current rating of 7,716 lbs (3,500 kg).

Customers can also expect a Gross Vehicle Mass of 9,921 lbs (4,500 kg) and a Gross Combined Mass of 17,637 lbs (8,000 kg). This means owners will be able to haul and do more with their trucks.

Ford has been coy on additional details, but the Ranger Super Duty could be offered with the Raptor’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. In Australia, it produces 392 hp (292 kW / 397 PS) and 430 lb-ft (583 Nm) of torque.

We can expect to learn more in the coming months, but the Ranger Super Duty was developed by Ford’s International Markets Group and will be built in Thailand. It will be offered in “markets around the world,” but these are expected to be primarily in Asia and Africa as well as Australia and New Zealand.
