The high-riding flagship EV holds greater sales potential compared to the more traditional ICE-powered DS9 sedan

- DS will expand its lineup with a fully electric crossover featuring an coupe-like roofline.
- The new model is rumored to be called DS8 and will ride on the STLA M / Medium architecture.
- Expect an aggressive stance and premium quality materials inside the cabin.
DS is set to enter the fastback crossover market with a new flagship model, possibly named DS8. This fully electric vehicle is anticipated to debut in late 2024 or early 2025, positioning itself as a more luxurious option compared to stablemates like the Peugeot 408 and Citroen C5 X within the Stellantis group.
The DS8 was originally previewed by the DS Aero Sport Lounge Concept from 2020, but development prototypes didn’t make their first appearance until early 2024, hiding under heavy camouflage. Official confirmation of plans to produce it came in late 2023, with DS promising that the fully electric model will feature “extraordinary technology and refinement”.

Our artists crafted speculative renderings of the DS8, blending contemporary styling cues into a sporty crossover with a fastback silhouette. Like the rest of the lineup, the DS8 will feature aggressive headlights with LED extensions on the front bumper.
However, the concept’s most futuristic elements, such as the covered grille doubling as a display and aerodynamic features on the hood and pillars, are likely to be significantly toned down for production, resulting in a more conventional shape.
The interior of the DS8 will feature cutting-edge technology sourced from the Stellantis parts catalog, emphasizing connectivity, comfort, and safety alongside premium materials. However, unlike the futuristic dashboard-wide curved display seen in the DS M.i. 21 Manifesto concept last year, such innovations are expected to debut in production models closer to the end of the decade.

DS has confirmed that the new model will ride on the STLA M / Medium architecture, which was designed for compact and midsize models measuring between 4,300-4,900 mm (169.3-192.9 inches) long. We also know it will be available with a 98 kWh battery pack, offering a driving range of over 435 miles (700 km) between charges.
The architecture is compatible with single and dual electric motor setups, producing anywhere between 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) and 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS). While DS said that all models that will be introduced from 2024 on will be “exclusively 100% electric”, we can’t rule out the possibility of a PHEV alternative, amidst the BEV slowdown.
In terms of the chassis setup, it is safe to assume that the DS8 will feature a brand-specific suspension, prioritizing comfort and refinement.

Beyond Lancia, DS Automobiles currently has one of the smallest lineups among Stellantis brands, comprising the DS3, DS4, DS7, and DS9. The addition of the new model will provide the French brand with a high-riding flagship, offering greater sales potential compared to the more traditional DS9 sedan, especially in global markets.
While the positioning of the DS8 remains ambiguous, higher end trims may indirectly compete with vehicles like the Audi Q6 E-Tron, Porsche Macan EV, Mercedes EQC, and the forthcoming BMW Neue Klasse SUV (successor to the iX3).
More details about this EV will emerge as we approach its rumored debut in autumn 2024, with a market launch expected in early 2025. Production is slated to occur at the Melfi plant in Italy.
