Former Indian cricket stars Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif lauded Rohit Sharma‘s captaincy in a video posted on Kaif’s social media. The two legends heaped praise on the Indian team and their support staff, celebrating the long-awaited championship victory.
India defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. After winning their second T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue put an end to their 11-year ICC trophy drought.
Yuvraj and Kaif commended Rohit, Virat Kohli, and coach Rahul Dravid behind this historic win. During the post-match presentation, Kohli also announced his retirement from T20I cricket, similar to Rohit. Meanwhile, Dravid had already declared he would not renew his contract with the BCCI after this T20 World Cup. However, the historic win signified the end of a majestic era in Indian cricket.
“Rohit Sharma skillfully guided the squad, as an exceptional leader who backed each player. When India narrowly lost the final in 2023, an emotional Sharma was visibly distraught, which shows his deep investment in the team’s success. Ultimately, he secured a title win before retiring on a high note. Congratulations are also due to coach Rahul Dravid for this memorable achievement,” said Kaif in the video.
“I’m thrilled for Rohit Sharma. He’s a captain unlike any I’ve seen before – a brilliant tactician. In the critical final moments of the match, his decision to bring in Bumrah at the pivotal moment proved game-changing. Emerging victorious from that tense situation was a tremendous achievement. I’m overjoyed for Rohit, as well as for Coach Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli. Captain Rohit Sharma is a true “Hitman” that I greatly admire. His leadership has cemented his status as the number one captain,” stated Yuvraj.
In addition to the renowned batting pair, India’s trusted all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced his retirement from T20I cricket. Nevertheless, this victory has fittingly honored the achievements of three Indian stars, including head coach Rahul Dravid.
