“I am feeling better now”: Mayank Agarwal updates health status from Agartala hospital

The cricketer, who felt irritation in his throat, posted photos from the hospital, providing relief to his fans and the cricket community.
In a turn of events on Tuesday, Mayank suffered oral irritation and lip swelling after mistakenly ingesting a transparent liquid, thinking it was water, during a New Delhi-bound IndiGo flight. He was promptly de-boarded and rushed to a private hospital in Tripura’s capital after complaining of throat irritation.
The hospital declared Mayank Agarwal’s condition clinically stable while providing further monitoring after receiving medical attention.
“I am feeling better now. Gearing to come back. Thanks for your prayers, love, and support, everyone,” Mayank wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday, January 31st.
Fans immediately flooded the opener’s post with comments wishing him a speedy recovery.
Leading the Karnataka state team in a Ranji Trophy match against Tripura over the weekend, Mayank will unfortunately miss the upcoming game against Railways in Surat, starting February 2.
Mayank’s recovery is progressing well, and he’s on track to go home on Wednesday. He however faces a temporary challenge of a 48-hour speech restriction due to swelling on his lips and ulcers. Shedding light on the incident, Karnataka team manager Ramesh revealed that Mayank felt irritation after mistakenly drinking the liquid from his seat pocket, thinking it was water.
“We were ready for takeoff when Mayank got thirsty. He drank water from the seat pocket in front of him. Soon after, he noticed an itching sensation in his throat, making him feel nauseous. He ran towards the cockpit and told the air hostess,” Ramesh said to India Today.
“Searching for a doctor on board, the flight attendant quickly rang the emergency bell, but none was found. She then informed the pilot who contacted the airport authorities, and doctors arrived. Doctors conveyed that they can’t provide first aid and he requires hospitalization. Following this, an ambulance arrived, and he was transported to the hospital,” he added.
Mayank Agarwal lodges a complaint with Tripura Police suspecting foul play
Mayank Agarwal has lodged a police complaint as the investigation into the incident unfolds. The Karnataka batter has suspicions of foul play behind his condition. Ramesh, his manager helped Mayank to register a complaint.
Tripura health secretary Kiran Gitte spoke to PTI and confirmed that Mayank is out of danger. He also stated that an investigation was underway.
West Tripura SP Kiran Kumar also told PTI that Mayank sipped from a pouch what he initially thought was water but felt a burning sensation in his throat. He also added that Mayank was out of danger and was recovering.

Mayank Agarwal will be absent from Karnataka’s next Ranji clash against Railways on February 2nd. Vice-captain Nikin Jose will lead the side in Mayank’s absence.
Mayank guided Karnataka to a 29-run victory against Tripura on January 29, Monday. The dashing opener who has been missing from the current Indian setup last played for Team India in a Test match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore way back in 2022. Overall he has featured in 21 Tests and 5 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India.
In the IPL, the former Punjab Kings(PBKS) skipper has played a total of 123 matches. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) purchased him for 8.25 at the 2023 auction. He hasn’t come out all guns blazing for the Hyderabad-based franchise yet and would hope to deliver a substantial season later this year.
