This Mustang Is Actually A Hyundai

Sometimes the most interesting car builds start with models nobody really asked for. Compared to Hyundai’s current batch of sporty offerings, the old Tiburon feels a little slow and uninspired, but over the years, the plucky sports coupe has carved out a strange niche for itself as the basis for some unexpected replicas.

Not too long ago, we came across one reimagined as a classic Toyota Celica rally car, and back in 2019, another was transformed into a bizarre Bugatti Chiron lookalike.
This time around, we have stumbled across a Tiburon that has been modified to resemble a fifth-generation Ford Mustang. This particular replica has been floating around for quite a few years now and was built somewhere in Europe, more specifically, judging by the license plates, in Spain.
Limited details about the car’s transformation are known, but whoever tackled this project clearly invested a lot of time and effort trying to make it look convincing. And to be fair, they actually pulled it off quite nicely, all things given.

Even so, because the Tiburon’s proportions are not a one-to-one match with the Mustang’s, the differences are pretty easy to spot once you know where to look. They are most obvious at the rear, where the overhang is a bit shorter than it would be on a real Mustang and the tailgate shape is slightly off.
Nevertheless, all of the Hyundai’s original exterior body panels look to have been replaced and the car now rocks a custom front end with a blacked-out grille, Mustang-inspired lights, and a pair of extra spotlights. It’s also been painted in a new shade of silver with black racing stripes and has similar flared wheel arches and striking front quarter panels.
The ‘Stang cues continue along the sides of the car with new five-spoke wheels, Mustang badging on the door sills, and matching flared arches at the rear.
There is no word on whether the builder made any performance upgrades, but it is believed this replica started life as a 2.7-liter V6 Tiburon that was good for 172 horsepower. Which, while nothing to write home about, seems like a nice choice for an everyday ride – and likely sounds better than a four-cylinder.
