First 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Fetches $350,000 At Auction

The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse starts at $59,485 but the first production model sold for significantly more over the weekend.

When the hammer came down at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction, the car was sold for $350,000. That’s a huge premium, but it pales in comparison to the $490,000 bid received by the first 2024 Mustang GT.

Despite that, there was more than one winner on Saturday as 100% of the hammer price will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). It’s one of Ford’s favorite charities and is the “leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research.” The organization aims to prevent, treat, and eventually cure the disease.

Besides helping a good cause, the winning bidder received the very first Mustang Dark Horse. Aside from sporting VIN 001, the car has a Blue Ember Metallic exterior with accent stripes and the Appearance package. The latter adds a contrasting black roof and Notorious Blue brake calipers.

The nicely equipped cabin sports a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch infotainment system. They’re joined by black Recaro seats with contrasting blue accents.

The Dark Horse is all about performance and it excels at that thanks to a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, which produces 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS) and 418 lb-ft (566 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a six-speed manual, which sends power to the rear wheels.

On top of the powerful V8, the first car comes equipped with the Handling package. It includes a retuned suspension, magnetic dampers, and 19-inch wheels with a dark finish. They’re joined by front tow hooks and a rear spoiler with a Gurney flap.
