- The Ford Puma is now available with a fully electric powertrain, adopting the Gen-E moniker.
- The electric motor produces 166 hp, which is only 2 hp less than the ICE-powered Puma ST.
- The Gen-E is priced from €36,900 ($38,800) in Germany, making it Ford’s cheapest EV offering.
Ford has introduced the fully electric Puma Gen-E in Europe, joining the mild-hybrid lineup of the small SUV. The EV is visually distinguished by its redesigned face, promising ST levels of power, 376 km (234 miles) of range, and greater practicality inside the cabin.

The zero-emission model powered by a single electric motor on the front axle, generating 166 hp (124 kW / 168 PS) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque. Notably, this is 2 hp (1 kW) less and 42 Nm (31 lb-ft) more than the Puma ST with the 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid, which is the most potent version of the small SUV.

According to Ford, the Puma GEN-E retrains the driver-centric character of the Fiesta-based SUV, despite tipping the scales at 1,553 kg (3,446 pounds) due to the extra weight of the batteries. The EV completes the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 8 seconds (0.6 seconds slower than the Puma ST), and has a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph).

As with the mechanically-related Ford E-Tourneo Courier, the Puma Gen-E is fitted with a floor-mounted 43 kWh battery pack, allowing a range between 347-376 km (216-234 miles) depending on the trim. The smaller capacity compared to rival electric SUV offerings from Stellantis (54 kWh), explains the slightly worse WLTP range figure, despite the advertised efficiency of 13.1 kWh/100 km.
Thankfully, the Puma Gen-E is compatible with 100 DC kW fast charging, taking the battery from 10-80 percent in approximately 23 minutes. If you’re wondering, the charging port is located in the same spot with the fuel cap in the ICE-powered Puma.
A Redesigned Nose And More Storage Space Inside
Visually, Ford’s smallest electric SUV adopts a new front bumper with a covered grille and sleeker bumper intakes inspired by the Mustang Mach-E. The rest of the design is carried over, setting aside the unique alloy wheels, a slightly tweaked rear spoiler, and the obvious lack of tailpipes.

Inside, the Ford Puma Gen-E has more space for cargo, benefiting from the compact size of the electric motor. More specifically, the boot can hold up to 574 lt (20.3 cubic feet) of luggage, with an extra 43 lt (1.5 cubic feet) in the frunk. Ford says that the Megabox compartment under the boot floor has grown larger, which is why they call it Gigabox.
The digital cockpit is shared with the regular Puma, including the 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster and the 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, introduced earlier this year as part of the mid-lifecycle update. However, the electric version features a raised center console with a new storage compartment taking advantage of the space normally occupied by the gearbox.
Pricing And Rivals
The Puma Gen-E is being produced at the Ford Otosan plant in Craiova, Romania, although the electric drive units are being shipped from Halewood, UK. Ford has already started accepting orders, with deliveries expected to commence in spring 2025.

In Germany, the Puma Gen-E is priced from €36,900 ($38,800), when the regular Puma starts at €28,900 ($30,400) and the similarly-powerful Puma ST costs €40,600 ($42,700). Predictably, the small SUV is Ford’s cheapest EV offering in Europe, below the Capri, Explorer, and Mustang Mach-E.
Rivals of the Ford Puma Gen-E include the Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600e, Alfa Romeo Junior, Peugeot E-2008, and Opel Mokka Electric from Stellantis, alongside the Renault 4 E-Tech, and the Mini Aceman.
