There are pros and cons associated with this decision which should be kept in mind before drinking milk empty stomach.
Advantages
1. Milk comprises calcium, protein, vitamin (B12) and minerals (phosphorus), ensuring the safety of our overall health.
2. Milk is approximately 87 per cent water and thus provides necessary hydration to the human body. This drink is even more beneficial when you consume it in the morning.
3. Milk is considered a complete protein which means it contains all nine of the essential amino acids necessary for the human body. It is beneficial for the muscle growth.
4. Some opine that drinking milk on an empty stomach cures problems like flatulence (gas formed in the stomach) and belching (release of gas from the stomach). The fat quotient in milk spreads across the stomach lining and reduces irritation.
5. Sipping milk gives full stomach gratification suppressing hunger and avoiding eating excessively in the morning.
Disadvantages
1. Consuming milk on an empty stomach can lead to digestion-related ailments like diarrhoea and flatulence in people who are lactose intolerant.
2. Milk is slightly acidic which can exacerbate the problems of acidity.
3. Milk can also work against the impact of medicines due to the calcium and iron content in the body.
4. Milk is high in calories and its regular consumption every day without eating anything can lead to an increase of a few pounds in the body.
5. In rare cases, the protein in milk can also cause allergic reactions in some people. These include vomiting, Anaphylaxis, a rare, potentially life-threatening reaction and bloody stools, especially in infants. They should avoid drinking milk on an empty stomach.
