Ford Evos Crossover Becomes The Mondeo Sport In China And Goes Hybrid-Only
The hybrid crossover produces 304 hp, matching the equivalent Ford Mondeo sedan

The Ford Mondeo might be long gone from the UK and Europe, but the nameplate is still standing in China. In a quest to boost buyers interest in the Evos crossover, the Changan Ford joint venture re-launched it as the Mondeo Sport, better communicating its close ties with the Mondeo sedan, while upgrading it with a self-charging hybrid powertrain.
It has been three years since the debut of the Evos in April 2021, but Ford didn’t bother to change the exterior design for the Mondeo Sport. The only differences are the Mondeo lettering on the tailgate, the Sport badges, and the refreshed color palette including the pictured yellow shade from the Mustang Mach-E.

The five-door crossover measures 4,920 mm (193.7 inches) long, which makes it 15 mm (0.6 inches) shorter compared to the four-door sedan. The two models share the same 2,945 mm (115.9 inches) wheelbase, but the Mondeo Sport sits slightly higher with a ground clearance of 168 mm (6.6 inches).
The interior has also been largely carried over, with the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the 27-inch 4K touchscreen running Ford’s SYNC+ 2.0 system. The crossover’s boot has a capacity of 527 lt (18.6 cubic feet), growing to 1,550 lt (54.7 cubic feet) when the seats are folded.

The hybrid engine, which was previously reserved for the sedan, finally made it to the renamed crossover, becoming its sole powertrain option. It comprises a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine and a single electric motor, resulting in a combined output of 304 hp (227 kW / 309 PS). This is more potent than the outgoing ICE-only Ford Evos which produced 235 hp (238 PS/175 kW).
As with all versions of the Mondeo, power is transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT gearbox. According to Ford, the CLTC driving range of the hybrid Mondeo Sport is up to 915 km (569 miles) with a full tank of gasoline.
The Ford Mondeo Sport will soon available to order in China, following its debut at the Chongqing International Auto Show. Pricing starts from ¥209,800 ($28,946) for the regular Mondeo Sport, and from ¥229,800 ($31,706) for the ST-Line trim, matching the prices of the equivalent Mondeo sedan hybrid.
